Hey girl, I know it's time to shed the winter clothes, bare some skin and soak up some rays, but let's keep suncare on your mind while doing so. May is Skin Cancer Awareness month so what better way to kick off summer than with tips on how to achieve that summer glow, safely!
Wear Sunscreen!
Who should use sunscreen? Everyone. "But I never burn". While sunburn is a very obvious sign of sun damage, it is not the only sign. Overexposure can lead to premature aging, sunspots or worse, skin cancer. It doesn't matter your skin tone or how infrequent you burn, you should be wearing sunscreen every day. Facial sunscreen is great for those who don't spend a lot of time outdoors during the day. We love Glowbiotics Tinted Sunscreen because not only does it protect your skin, but it also acts as a tinted primer which is great for under your makeup. Facial sunscreens usually range from SPF 15 to SPF 30 and are perfect for your day to day travel to and from the office.
If you are spending a lot of time outside during the day you need SPF 30 or more and should reapply every 2 hours. You should also be applying to all areas that are getting sun, not just your face. We have a great lineup of broad-spectrum sunscreens by bü that are spray-on, making application less messy. Their products go on silky smooth and don’t leave you feeling sticky. From unscented to lightly scented and a good range of SPF protection they have something for everyone in your family.
What level of protect you use beyond SPF 30 is entirely up to you. Some folks are highly sensitive to the sun and burn easily, they should opt for a higher level of protection like SPF 50. It is also important that you check all of your medications to be sure that they don’t cause sun sensitivity, if they do you will want to choose a higher level of protection as well.
It is also important to note that sunscreen does expire. They have an average shelf-life of 3 years. So if you can’t remember when you bought the bottle in your bathroom cabinet, it might be time to replace it with a new one. Some bottles have expirations while others don’t, so a good rule of them is to write the date on the bottom of the bottle when you buy it. This way you will always know if your sunscreen is safe to use.
Exfoliate!
When it’s the season to show more skin you want it to look its absolute best. Exfoliating removes dead skin and allows for your moisturizers and sunscreens to be absorbed better, which leaves your skin glowing and feeling soft. Laki Naturals Body Scrubs already have the beach in mind with their amazing scents. They leave your skin soft, moisturized and sundress ready.
Remove That Hair!
Does anyone else loathe shaving but also prefers to remove body hair before throwing on the shorts and heading out in public? That’s me! Sometimes I’ll use a hair removal cream which gives me a few more days before I need to worry about it, but nothing beats a good wax! However, when you live a busy life those appointments are just hard to make throughout the summer. Thankfully Lycon has a whole line of at-home wax products including everything you need for pre-wax and post-wax. Hair removal on your time has never been easier and it will leave you feeling confident to wear those shorts!
Self-Tan
I know a lot of us feel better with tan skin and while it does look great, the methods we go to achieve that look can be dangerous to our skin. Instead of basking in the sun all day to get your bronze on try using a self-tanner to get that summer glow. Self-tanners have come a long way and no longer leave you looking orange like they did in the 90s. They come in different shade levels and gradually get darker the more you use it. Cocoa Brown 1 Hour Tan Mousse only takes an hour to begin to develop, just a fraction of the time you would spend in the sun without all the sun damage.
Now that I have given you the tools to keep your skin safe and glowing this summer, go rock those shorts! For more skincare advice, tips and product reviews follow us on Instagram.
